Literary Salon: Childhood: Return to Innocence
August 21st, Friday, 5-7 pm, (In person) -- August's Grotto Literary Salon will feature Lindsey Crittenden, Terry Tierney, Veronica Kornberg, Susan Kiyo and Preeti Vangani reading pieces around the theme of childhood. Leah Korican will emcee the evening. The readings will take place at The Writers' Grotto, 1663 Mission Street Suite 602, San Francisco (near the Van Ness BART & MUNI station). Snacks and refreshments will be provided. This event is FREE and open to the public, and refreshments are provided.

Grotto Nights at SFPL- Panel: Speculate: Writing about the Strange and Surreal
On Tuesday, August 25th on the 1st Floor of the San Francisco Main Library at 100 Larkin Street, explore the possibilities of speculative fiction through a conversation with writers working in science fiction, fantasy and surreal literature. Authors Khan Wong, Doug Henderson, T. K. Rex, Katie M. Flynn and Audrey T. Williams discuss how stories of the strange, uncanny and impossible can challenge our understanding of reality. Moderated by Josh Wilson, the panel explores worldbuilding, craft and the ways speculative and surreal storytelling intersect across contemporary literature. A Q&A follows the discussion.

Founded in honor of The Writers Grotto student and author of "Into the Laughing Gas World" Rin Kelly, the Rin Kelly Scholarship for Fiction offers a $350 scholarship to emerging fiction writers with a focus on speculative, imaginative and critical/satirical works.
