SUNDAY, June 8th |Tired of waiting for someone else to publish your work? A zine is a handmade book that can be photocopied and distributed yourself. In this one-day workshop, we will learn how zines (short for magazines) became popular in punk, DIY (do-it-yourself) and queer culture. Then we will look at zines by a variety of artists and writers to get ideas. You will spend the rest (and most) of the time making your own zine—cutting, gluing, writing, collaging and drawing. No art experience necessary! The purpose of making a zine is to express yourself in a way that is authentic and fun for you in a supportive and inspiring environment. Scissors, glue, paper, markers, magazines, stamps and stickers are provided, so just bring yourself. If you have a specific idea for a project, feel free to bring in your own images or art supplies.
