Rachel Howard is the author of a novel, The Risk of Us (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt), and a memoir, The Lost Night (Dutton), described as "enthralling" by the New York Times. She also writes dance criticism for the San Francisco Chronicle and Fjord Review. Her fiction and nonfiction have appeared in the New York Times Magazine, ZYZZYVA, Waxwing (nominated for a Pushcart), the Los Angeles Review of Books, the New Yorker Online, O Magazine, the Hudson Review, Gulf Coast, and the AWP Writer's Chronicle. A fellow of MacDowell, she has served as interim director of creative writing at Warren Wilson College, and as distinguished visiting writer in the MFA program of St. Mary's College of California.
