TUESDAYS, March 10th - April 28th | Each novel is unique, and yet all novels share certain essential qualities. It is in the delicate balance between these two truths that we will examine the work of writing your novel. I am frustrated with novel-writing workshops that claim we can impose a cookie-cutter mythic structure or a simplistic beat sheet onto a novel and end up with anything other than a formulaic result.
We will begin by looking at a synopsis of the novel, then move into reading first chapters. We will read and discuss craft writing on plot, scene and summary, and character development. We will think about, explore, and write into the living questions of your novel.
Whether you are just beginning your novel or working on a later draft, this class will help you imagine your book as a whole and deepen the connections between its parts. In this small workshop, we will check in regularly on where you are in the process and help you take the next steps forward. Each novel is a singular entry into the form, and I will approach your work as an individual piece of art.
