THURSDAYS, March 12th - April 9th | Do you wish to write, but don’t know where or how to begin? Do you have a stalled project? Are you someone who finds the blank page terrifying and frustrating to approach by yourself? Or are you craving community around your art? If so, please join me for the next five weeks for a brief course that includes: writing in community, lessons on craft, and the opportunity to share, workshop, and revise your narratives.
Much of this course will be dedicated to sparking and organizing your own creativity. Using prompts and short exercises, we’ll spend part of our class creating new material. Each class will include a brief lesson on a particular tactic or skill. Using these skills, you’ll be asked to mine observations, memories, and imaginings for the purpose of creating scenes. Then we’ll look at how to develop and revise your vivid scenes into short narratives. You have the option of working a new short piece each week, or bringing a larger ongoing project that you’d like to dig into. Submitting work is not required, but I read and respond to all assignments that are submitted.
Short reading assignments and weekly field-work and journaling are to be expected. Submitting work is not required, however I read and respond to all assignments that come across my desk. But you can also skip all homework and just show up and write for you!
Requirements: a notebook/journal and a pen.
