**Cancelled**SATURDAYS, MAY 13th & 20th | The first five pages of your story may be all that agents or editors read, so they need to be awesome. It took me four years to get the prologue of my novel Just Like Beauty in decent shape. I wish I’d known then what I know now. These days, with agents and editors overwhelmed and overworked, you have about 20 seconds to grab their attention. You need to make those opening pages shine! In this workshop, we will review the best strategies for creating intriguing first pages and analyze mentor texts to learn from the greats. Then you will throw everything you’ve got into the first five pages of your short story or novel (1250 words max) to make sure they are doing exactly what you want them to do. There will be in-class writing to prompts, plus voluntary sharing and feedback. Workshop 1 will focus on strategies and Workshop 2 will focus on revision. We will also talk about why you are the best writer for your story and explore your deep connection to the material.
