Ethan Nosowsky is Editorial Director at Graywolf Press. He began his career at Farrar, Straus and Giroux and has also been Editorial Director at McSweeney’s. Authors he has worked with include Hilton Als, Geoff Dyer, Dave Eggers, Carmen Maria Machado, Manuel Muñoz, Maggie Nelson, Jenny Offill, and Max Porter, among many others. Books he has worked on have won or been finalists for the National Book Award, the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Critics Circle Award, and the Booker Prize. He lives in Oakland, California.

Vanessa Hua is the author of the national bestsellers A River of Stars and Forbidden City, as well as Deceit and Other Possibilities, a New York Times Editors Pick. A National Endowment for the Arts Literature Fellow, she has also received a Rona Jaffe Foundation Writers’ Award, the Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature, and a Steinbeck Fellowship in Creative Writing, as well as awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, the Asian American Journalists Association, among others. A former columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle, her work has appeared in the New York Times, Washington Post, and The Atlantic. She is a Visiting Writer at Saint Mary’s College of California.

Danielle Svetcov is an agent with Levine Greenberg Rostan Literary Agency, a full-service agency based in New York. LGR has brokered deals for 30 New York Times bestsellers in the last two years alone, many of which have been produced or optioned for film and television. Svetcov joined LGR Literary in 2002. Her clients tend to be oppositional but reasoned, serious but amused—preferring their rabbit holes deep. She teaches creative nonfiction through Stanford’s extension program and works with private clients.

The Secrets of Publishing

This event will focus on the burning question lodged in the back of every writer’s mind: how do I get published? This robust panel — comprised of a literary agent, an acquisitions editor and two authors — will help you crack the code. We’ll discuss the latest developments in the publishing industry and share success stories and tips for making your submission stand out. The panel will be followed by a Q & A and a mixer. This event will take place in the Mezzanine at our Mission Street location. Metered parking is free on Sundays. Visitors are encouraged to wear masks, and all San Francisco health mandates will be followed. Please note that this class may be moved to a virtual format closer to the start date depending on the public health situation. Financial aid is available for writers in need.
