Creative Writing for Kids with Lisa Lerner
This class is for young writers who are passionate about storytelling. Students will learn how to build imaginative worlds and draw readers in from the very first line. Talking about writing is as important as writing, and thoughtful discussion will help students understand how writers make words come alive. The ideal student is a true lover of the written word --- independently creating stories -- who would like to know more about what they are doing right and how they can improve. Mini craft lessons will address students' particular needs, based on their submitted work. All work will be given a dramatic read aloud by the instructor (young writers LOVE to hear their work come to life) and then we discuss its brilliance (I can always find the gold!). Gentle suggestions help writers improve clarity, logic, grammar and formatting conventions. Sometimes, we will play writing games or write from prompts. Every session is customized to student needs, and I have a LOT of writerly tricks up my sleeves! For ages 9-12, but open to younger students who are serious about writing, know how to use Google docs, and can focus independently on Zoom.
